Our dentists have extensive experience of treating nervous patients. If you are nervous or worried about any aspect of your dental care, please let us know as we will do all we can to make your experience a positive one.
At your first appointment, your dentist talk to you to find out why you feel anxious and to understand your concerns. They will discuss all aspects of your treatment with you and where possible, they will start with simple treatments and short appointments to gradually build up your confidence and trust.
We have many patients who joined the practice as extremely nervous patients, and who now enjoy attending every 6 months for their routine examination.
For those patients who would prefer to be sedated during big treatments, we will discuss the options available to you.
This is when the anti-anxiety drug, is administered into the blood system during dental treatment. IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what's going on. The drugs used for IV sedation produce either partial or full memory loss for the period when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much of what happened. Many people remember nothing at all. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were "asleep" during the procedure.
